Privacy Policy
Last updated: December 10, 2024
At Snabbit, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our screenshot tool.
Screen Recording Permission
Snabbit is a screenshot utility that helps you capture, annotate, and manage screenshots on your Mac.
Permission Requirement:
Snabbit requires Screen Recording permission from macOS to capture screenshots. This permission is requested by the operating system when you first attempt to capture a screenshot using Snabbit.
How to Grant Permission:
When you first use Snabbit to capture a screenshot, macOS will display a system dialog requesting Screen Recording permission. You can also manually grant or revoke this permission at any time in:
- System Settings (macOS 13+) → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording
- System Preferences (older macOS) → Security & Privacy → Privacy → Screen Recording
What This Permission Allows:
Screen Recording permission allows Snabbit to capture an image of your screen content when you explicitly trigger a screenshot by:
- Pressing your configured keyboard shortcut (hotkey)
- Clicking "Capture Screenshot" in the menu bar
Important: Snabbit does NOT perform automatic, background, or continuous screen recording. Screenshots are only captured when you explicitly initiate the action.
Data Collection
Screenshot Images
What We Collect:
Snabbit captures screenshot images (PNG format) of your screen content ONLY when you explicitly trigger a capture by:
- Pressing your configured keyboard shortcut
- Clicking the menu bar "Capture Screenshot" option
When We Collect:
- Screenshots are captured ONLY when you manually initiate the action
- No automatic or background screen recording occurs
- No continuous monitoring of your screen activity
User Control:
- You have complete control over when screenshots are captured
- You can review all captured screenshots in the Snabbit gallery
- You can delete screenshots at any time
Usage Analytics
What We Collect:
We collect anonymous, non-identifiable usage statistics to help improve Snabbit, including:
- App feature usage (e.g., "screenshot captured", "markup tool used")
- Technical information (e.g., macOS version, app version)
- Performance metrics (e.g., app launch time, crash reports)
What We DO NOT Collect:
- ❌ Screenshot image content or visual data
- ❌ Personal information or user identity
- ❌ Screen activity or browsing history
- ❌ File names or file paths
- ❌ Keyboard input or typed content
- ❌ Any data that could identify you
Analytics Provider:
We use Amplitude Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics. This helps us understand which features are most useful and improve the app experience.
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
Screenshot Images:
All screenshot images captured by Snabbit are stored locally on your Mac in a folder you choose:
- Default location: ~/Documents/Snabbit
- You can change this location in Snabbit Settings
- Screenshots are saved as standard PNG image files
- You have full file system access to move, copy, or delete screenshots
No Cloud Storage:
- Snabbit does NOT upload screenshots to any cloud service
- Snabbit does NOT transmit screenshots to remote servers
- Snabbit does NOT store screenshots in any location outside your Mac
- Your screenshot data never leaves your device
Your Control:
- You maintain complete ownership and control of your screenshot files
- You can manage screenshots using Finder like any other file
- Deleting screenshots from Snabbit removes them from your Mac
- Uninstalling Snabbit does NOT delete your saved screenshots (they remain in your chosen folder)
Analytics Data Storage
Anonymous usage analytics are transmitted to Amplitude's servers for analysis. This data:
- Contains NO screenshot content or visual data
- Contains NO personal information
- Is used solely to improve app features and performance
- Cannot be linked back to you or your device
Data Sharing and Third Parties
Screenshot Images: NO SHARING
Your screenshots are NEVER shared with third parties.
Screenshot images captured by Snabbit:

- ❌ Are NOT uploaded to any cloud service
- ❌ Are NOT shared with any third party
- ❌ Are NOT accessible to anyone except you
- ✅ Remain exclusively on your Mac under your control
Sharing Features:
When you explicitly use Snabbit's sharing features (Share button), screenshots are shared using macOS's built-in sharing services:
- You choose which service to share with (Messages, Mail, AirDrop, etc.)
- Sharing only occurs when you explicitly click "Share"
- We do not track or have access to what you share or with whom
Analytics Data: Limited Sharing
Third Party Service:
We use Amplitude Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics. This is the ONLY third party that receives any data from Snabbit.
What Amplitude Receives:
- Anonymous app usage events (e.g., "screenshot captured", "markup tool used")
- Technical device information (macOS version, app version)
- Randomly generated anonymous identifier (no personal info)
What Amplitude DOES NOT Receive:
- ❌ Screenshot images or content
- ❌ Personal information or user identity
- ❌ File names or file paths
- ❌ Any data that identifies you
Purpose:
Analytics help us understand feature usage patterns so we can improve Snabbit. For example, knowing that "80% of users use the blur tool" helps us prioritize improvements to that feature.
Amplitude's Privacy:
Amplitude processes analytics data according to their privacy policy: https://amplitude.com/privacy
Accessibility Permission
Why Snabbit Requests Accessibility Permission
Snabbit offers an optional global keyboard shortcut feature that allows you to capture screenshots from anywhere on your Mac without needing to switch to the Snabbit app.
Permission Purpose:
Accessibility permission allows Snabbit to detect when you press your configured keyboard shortcut (e.g., Cmd+Control+Option+Shift+9) while using any application.
How We Use This Permission:
- ✅ ONLY to detect your configured screenshot hotkey
- ✅ ONLY when you have explicitly configured a global hotkey in Settings
How We DO NOT Use This Permission:
- ❌ NOT to monitor your keyboard typing
- ❌ NOT to track what applications you use
- ❌ NOT to access any other system functionality
- ❌ NOT to collect any data about your computer usage
Accessibility Permission is Optional:
You can use Snabbit WITHOUT granting Accessibility permission:
- Use the menu bar icon to capture screenshots instead
- All other features work normally without this permission
- The global hotkey feature simply won't work without the permission
How to Grant or Revoke:
- macOS will request this permission when you first configure a global hotkey
- You can manually manage this in: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- You can revoke permission at any time; Snabbit will continue working via menu bar
Data Retention
Screenshot Images
Your Control:
Screenshot images are stored on your Mac indefinitely until YOU choose to delete them:
- Delete individual screenshots in Snabbit's gallery view
- Delete the entire Snabbit folder in Finder
- Screenshots are standard PNG files you can manage like any other file
We Do Not Control Retention:
Since screenshots are stored locally on your device, we have no ability to access or delete them. You are in complete control.
Analytics Data
Retention Period:
Anonymous usage analytics are retained by Amplitude according to their data retention policies, typically:
- Active data: Retained while useful for product improvements
- Aggregated data: May be retained indefinitely for trend analysis
- Individual events: Deleted after analysis period
Your Rights:
Since analytics data is completely anonymous and cannot be linked to you, there is no personal data to delete or access.
Your Rights and Choices

- Toggle Snabbit on or off
- Revoking prevents screenshot capture
Accessibility:
- System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Toggle Snabbit on or off
- Revoking disables global hotkey only; other features continue working
